Cajetan Luna
Executive Director
Cajetan Luna has been the Executive Director of Center for Health Justice for over 13 years. Through this role, Cajetan supports staff and the Board of Directors to develop, expand, and fulfill CHJ’s mission and to grow the organization’s resources for the community that CHJ serves. Cajetan relies on his more than 25 years of experience in HIV/AIDS research across the US, Canada, Thailand, and Latin America to guide his work. Throughout his life, Cajetan has strived to be an agent for change. While his early NIMH/NIDA research focused on homeless youth and AIDS, he attributes his work with UCSF in epidemiology/global health with turning his focus toward addressing HIV-related disparities in justice-impacted populations. His publications focus on HIV/AIDS and youth policies, sexuality, sex work, adolescent health, and behavioral interventions, among others.
Prior to CHJ, Cajetan served as the Executive Director for community-based HIV/AIDS agencies in the San Joaquin, Monterey, and Santa Clara Counties of California, where he implemented targeted interventions for migrant farm workers, gay youth, and incarcerated populations. He has consulted with UCLA, Gilead, Columbia University, the Pan American Health Organization, and the World Health Organization.
Cajetan holds a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and the University of Madrid; a master’s degree from San Francisco State University; and has completed post-graduate studies at the University of California, San Francisco and the University of California, Berkeley.
